Miton

For Writers

Write better, faster, with a thinking partner beside you.

Draft, research, and refine long-form work in a document that helps you think. Miton suggests, summarises, and cites — without ever writing in your voice for you.

How It Works

1. Open a document, not a chat

Miton’s Document Surface is a markdown editor first, chat second. The page is yours. The cursor blinks. The words appear in the document, not in a sidebar you have to keep switching to.

2. Ask in plain English

Highlight a paragraph. Press the ask key. “Tighten this.” “Make the argument clearer.” “Find a stronger opening.” Miton rewrites in place, and you keep the voice you started with.

3. Cite without breaking flow

Highlight a claim. Press cite. Miton searches your references, the web, and your past research, and inserts the citation where your cursor is. No switching tabs. No copying URLs.

4. Export anywhere

One click to PDF, DOCX, markdown, or HTML. Your formatting survives. Your citations survive. Your work is yours.

What You Can Write

Articles and essays — Draft, restructure, tighten. Miton proposes changes; you accept or reject. Your voice stays intact.

Research briefs — Paste a topic, get an outline, then a draft, then a citation map. Miton keeps the sources it used; you can audit any claim.

Meeting notes — Start a new document, paste the transcript, ask “summarise the decisions.” Miton returns a structured note with action items.

Reports — Start from a template (board update, project retrospective, technical review). Fill in the sections. Miton suggests the standard format and helps you fill the gaps.

Blog posts and newsletters — Generate a draft from a headline, then refine paragraph by paragraph. The chat panel is there if you need it, but it never takes over your document.

Academic work — Insert footnotes, manage a reference list, keep notes alongside the draft. Export with citations intact.

Speeches and presentations — Outline in Document, export to slides, hand off to Canvas if you want a visual deck.

And anything else you write for a living. If it has paragraphs, Miton has a workspace for it.

Why Miton for Writers

The page is yours. Miton’s Document Surface is a real editor, not a chat with a preview. Your words are the document. The AI is an assistant, not a co-author.

Your voice stays intact. Miton never silently rewrites. Every suggestion is a change you accept. Every rewrite is a diff you can review.

Citations are first-class. No more “I’ll add the sources later.” Miton inserts the citation, formats it correctly, and keeps the reference list in sync.

It works offline. Miton runs locally. You can use a local model (free, private) for sensitive drafts, or a cloud model (faster, costs a small amount) when you want the best output.

Your drafts are private. Your documents, your research, your references — they stay on your machine unless you choose to publish or share.

It grows with your work. Start a draft. Add a reference list. Add an outline. Add a citation style. Add a research assistant. Miton has the depth when you need it, simplicity when it doesn’t.

FAQ

Will Miton write in my voice? No. Miton proposes changes. You accept or reject. Your voice is yours.

What about citations? Miton has a citation system built in. Highlight a claim, ask for a source, and Miton inserts the citation in the format you choose (APA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard, or a custom style).

Can I use my reference manager? Yes. Miton imports BibTeX, RIS, and CSV reference lists. You can also add references by hand or by URL.

Is it free? Yes. BYOK is always free. The free multi-provider gateway is also free. Pro features (more cloud model usage, collaborative editing, premium citation styles) land with v1.0. See miton.dev/pricing for the latest.

Can I use it for academic work? Yes. Footnotes, endnotes, reference lists, citation styles, plagiarism check (via integration) — all supported.

What if I want to collaborate? Miton’s Pro tier includes real-time collaborative editing. The free tier exports to shareable documents.

Is my writing private? Yes. Your documents stay on your machine. Cloud models are opt-in, per-message, and the request is encrypted in transit and not stored by Miton.

Can I switch to the developer view? Yes. The Document Surface can show the underlying markdown, and you can promote a document to a Project file (e.g. a TypeScript module that generates a report) with one click.
