The bets Miton makes
- Local-first, no telemetry. The agent runs on your machine. The IDE is the full app. You own the compute.
- BYOK by default. No proprietary model. No forced billing. Your keys, your data.
- Token efficiency, not token spend. Caching, condensation, and a Budget Bridge across the engine.
- Four lenses, one engine. Makers, Writers, Power users, Developers — the same chat, the same memory, the same model layer.
- Source-available (FSL). Converts to Apache 2.0 on 2028-06-12. No rug-pulls.
vs. Cursor / Windsurf (developer IDEs)
- No proprietary model. Cursor ships its own model and bills for it. Miton never bills you for a model you didn't bring.
- Local-first. Cursor's cloud agent executes work on a vendor VM. Miton never has a cloud agent. See Cloud Agents — Disavowed.
- Four lenses, not one. Cursor is a code editor with chat. Miton is a workspace with a code editor, a document editor, a visual workflow builder, and a chat.
- FSL → Apache 2.0. Cursor is a closed-source product. Miton's source is on GitHub and converts to Apache 2.0 in 2028.
vs. Bolt / Lovable / v0 (no-code web app builders)
- Workspace, not a sandbox. Bolt and Lovable are great web-app sandboxes, but they're web-only and ephemeral. v0 is a component playground. Miton is a workspace that runs natively on your machine.
- Files on your disk. Your project lives on your disk, in your filesystem, under your control. Open in any editor, commit to git, move it elsewhere.
- Local-first. Bolt and Lovable require a browser. Miton runs offline (with a local model) and never exfiltrates your work.
vs. Notion AI / Lex (writing tools with AI)
- Workspace, not a feature. Notion AI is a feature inside a database. Lex is a clean writing app with AI. Miton is a workspace: the document, the chat, the research, and the model layer are the same product.
- Local-first. Notion is a cloud database. Lex is a cloud editor. Miton runs locally, so your drafts never leave your machine.
vs. Zapier / Make / n8n (automation tools)
- Workspace, not a workflow tool. Zapier and Make are credit-metered cloud services. n8n is a self-hosted Zapier with a graph editor. Miton is a workspace with a workflow builder.
- Model and workflow in the same product. Triggers, actions, and the model layer are the same product as your chat, your documents, and your code. No copying text between tools.
- Local-first. Workflows run on your machine, not on a vendor's cloud.
vs. ChatGPT / Claude.ai (chat products)
- It does things. ChatGPT and Claude.ai are chat products. Miton is a workspace that ships code, documents, workflows, and visual apps.
- Files on your disk. Your work lives in your filesystem, not in a vendor's cloud.
- BYOK, no telemetry. Your keys, your data, your machine.
