What this accomplishes

Inspect and manage persistent facts and preferences Miton stores for your project.

Current availability

This page documents behaviour verified in Miton development builds. Miton is still pre-release and is not publicly downloadable; invited beta users will receive a signed desktop build with automatic updates.

Before you start

  • A Miton development build and an active project.
  • A connected cloud or local model, plus any credentials or local runtime required by this task.

Steps

  1. Open the right sidebar and select the Memory panel.
  2. Filter by category — All, Preferences, Project, Corrections, Patterns, or Session — to narrow the list.
  3. Hover an item to edit its text, delete it, or open the conversation that created it.
  4. Add a fact in chat: “Remember that we use strict types.”

Configuring memory in Settings

Open Settings → Project knowledge → Project memory to adjust:

  • Storage policy — pick a built-in preset or set retention (up to 730 days) and a storage size cap directly.
  • Semantic search — On, Off, or Auto (build a local index automatically when Ollama or local transformers are available).
  • Record project activity — auto-capture toggle; paused automatically in untrusted workspaces and in Hardcore Traditional mode.
  • Suggest project goals from chat — offers goal-shaped phrases into Project Goals; nothing is added without confirmation.
  • Export portable copy — save all project memory as an NDJSON file.
  • Delete all project memory — clears the local store for this project.

What success looks like

Memory items appear grouped by category, with an origin and scope badge on each, and edits or deletions apply immediately.

Common failures and recovery

  • Wrong fact: Delete it in the memory panel or say “Forget that we use JavaScript” in chat.
  • Memory not updating: Confirm the memory status chip is not set to Off for this session, and that the workspace has at least Trusted access (auto-capture pauses otherwise).
  • Can’t edit a project rule from the panel: Project rules live in .miton/rules/. Edit the file directly if the panel reports it can’t write the change.
