What this accomplishes

Connect your own model keys (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and others) so you are not limited to free-tier quotas.

Current availability

This page documents behaviour verified in Miton development builds. Miton is still pre-release and is not publicly downloadable; invited beta users will receive a signed desktop build with automatic updates.

Before you start

  • A Miton development build and an active project.
  • A connected cloud or local model, plus any credentials or local runtime required by this task.

Steps

  1. Click the gear icon in the status bar to open Settings.
  2. Select Providers.
  3. Choose the provider to configure.
  4. Enter your API key.
  5. Click Save key — Miton encrypts and stores it in your system keychain.

What success looks like

The provider shows Connected and your models appear in the chat model picker.

Common failures and recovery

  • Invalid key: Copy the full key with no leading or trailing spaces.
  • Keychain error: Allow Miton to save credentials in your OS security settings.
