What this accomplishes

This page records that Miton does not host a free inference tier. Older builds offered a credentialless model route. That route is retired. A session starts only after you connect a provider key or a local model.

Current availability

This page documents behaviour verified in Miton development builds. Miton is still pre-release and is not publicly downloadable; invited beta users will receive a signed desktop build with automatic updates.

Before you start

  • A Miton development build.
  • A provider API key, or a local model runtime on your machine.

Steps

  1. Open Settings → Providers → Connected model providers.
  2. Connect a provider key, or a local model.
  3. Choose a model, then send your message.

What success looks like

The provider shows as connected, and the model chip in the roster bar names that model. Sending a message does not open the connect dialog again.

Common failures and recovery

  • Send opens the connect dialog: No verified key or local model is connected yet. Finish that step, then send again.
  • Invalid key: Copy the full key with no leading or trailing spaces.
